Got the need for speed?

We know that a key ingredient in any marketing campaign is time. Important elements like photographs and press releases need to be delivered quickly to make sure you don’t lose  interest and video is no different.

Recently we’ve been churning out films at a rate of knots, why? Because they’re part of important events not to be missed!

Just a few weeks ago we filmed the launch of the 2012 Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire’s Best Business Awards. Last year we were lucky enough to be shortlisted for the awards, and this year we were lucky enough to be invited to join their team, but enough about us…

To make sure the guys at the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of commerce got as much visibility as possible for the launch we first filmed the lunch time Nottinghamshire event, then headed to Derbyshire for the evening event.

Then we headed back to A Star Media HQ for some hardcore late night editing, and by 3pm the next day the client had the first draft of both of their films!

Rachael Buxton, Head of Events for DNCC said, ‘We were extremely pleased with the professionalism shown by A Star Media in their approach and execution of the launch events for the DNCC Business Awards.  Also, the speed/turnaround and the quality of the films were excellent.’

Getting films out quickly is nothing new to A Star Media, we know there’s no point in having a film made if you’ve got to wait weeks to see it.

Loddon Brewery

Who? Loddon Brewery is a family run craft brewery based in Oxfordshire. Not only do they make delicious beer (we can vouch for it) they’ve also just had a MASSIVE re-brand, and bought us on board to make them some cool films.

What? The guys at Loddon wanted to show their fun friendly staff, great beer and funky new branding (provided by We Are Pure) to complement their new website (provided by Nzime).

The aim of the films was to be friendly, short and to the point, and showcase their unique style.

How? We scripted the films to be fun and light-hearted, focussing on big kahuna Chris Hearn and his long suffering Head Brewer Steve (just Steve, like Madonna…)

Filming over one day at their brewery near Henley-on-Thames we created a number of films about the different beers they brew, a tour of the brewery and what goes into Loddon Beer.

Filming at Loddon Brewery

The films were made to look ‘rustic’ by filming freehand and adding some screen burn in post-production, this helped the films match the branding and mirror Loddon’s quirky home-grown style.

Where? Once finished the films were uploaded to Loddon’s YouTube channel and their website. You can see a couple of the films here:

What? Luke Hearn, Sales Manager at Loddon said “It was a pleasure to work with A Star Media. They made everybody feel completely at ease and the day they spent filming with us was great fun yet still very professional. The videos they have made are just superb; they listened exactly to our brief and also offered their own ideas which were excellent. The videos are a real highlight of our new website and we’ve already received huge amounts of positive feedback about them from our customers. We would highly recommend A Star Media to any other company.”

Mission accomplished!

Katrina at the Excellence Awards

Our very own Katrina Atherton celebrates winning ‘Breakthrough Business of the Year’ for A Star Media at the 2011 Enterprising Women Excellence Awards, which took place at Chatsworth House.

Katrina said:  “I’m absolutely astounded to not only have been short-listed as a finalist, but to have actually won the award. We have worked really hard this year to further establish the business and this award is not just for myself, but also for my business partner John.”

Katrina was also a finalist in the ‘Enterprising Business Woman of the Year’ category.

Jean Mountain, Chair of the Chamber’s Enterprising Women group, said: “Many congratulations to all of the winners of this year’s Enterprising Women Excellence Awards.

These enterprising women make an important contribution to the local economy and their success stories will hopefully inspire many other women to pursue their business dreams and these awards are all about acknowledging and celebrating those achievements.”

A Star Media at Nottinghamshire’s Best Business Awards

On Friday 16th October AKatrina and John at the Awards Star Media were shortlisted as Finalists at the Chamber of Commerce Nottinghamshire’s Best Business Awards.

We had a great time and it was fab to see so many familiar faces at the awards. We were runners up along with The Elm Tree Pub in Elmton and Aware Monitoring was named as the winner in our category ‘Most Promising New Business’.

Turning our attention the Derbyshire branch of the ‘Best Business Awards’ our friends at OVISO (you can see our film on their homepage) won the ‘Most Promising New Business’ accolade! We’re thrilled to bits for them.

All in all a good result, and we’d like to send our congratulations to all the finalists and winners.

A Star Media – How to make a ‘Vodcast’ training session

At A Star Media we love making films, sharing films and watching films. As an award winning film production company we know what makes a good film, and we know what trouble a bad film can cause for your image.

Vodcasts are ‘Video On Demand’ Casts, basically web based films that users can watch at their leisure. Vodcasts are a great way to regularly communicate with your target market, and can be created quickly and easily to create recurring content, just like a blog.

When producing a Vodcast sometimes it’s best to call in the experts, but if you regularly want to create film content to promote your business, improve the optimisation of your website and share information with existing and potential customers, sometimes it could be good to do it yourself.

Making your own basic video can be easy!

Creating simple and effective films is easy, but it’s also really easy to get it wrong. Like anything to do with your business you want to get the quality right, it’s got to do your brand a favour and not be a little marketing experiment that’s kept out of sight.

Over the last few years we’ve developed some simple tricks to make any film better, and the best thing is we’re going to share them with you!

Our Vodcast training sessions will teach you the basics in how to create a great online video. We’ll show you basic camera techniques and how to set up your very own YouTube channel and we’ll introduce YouTube’s free tools to keep track of how successful your videos are.

Training will be given over a morning session, with breakfast provided along with the opportunity to network with fellow delegates.

Places are limited and are charged at £25 per person plus VAT.

Our next session will be held on Friday 7th October at Forever Green in Mansfield. Contact us to book your place.

Film is here for the users!

Sometimes even simple things can seem complicated to a novice, remember your first driving lesson or learning how to ride a bike?

A clear explanation can often turn something difficult into something easy, but giving a clear explanation over the web can sometimes be hard.

To help their users understand their service A Star Media was recently asked to produce a film for new auction site www.bidgrid.co.uk explaining how to use the site, and not to blow our own trumpet too much, but it’s pretty awesome!

We also helped the site developers get their film on Facebook and YouTube and since its launch the film has received over 700 views!

What’s the moral of the story? Film is the best way to show users how your stuff works, simple!

If you want to know more, just give us a shout, we’ll be happy to help!

Web Video Geeks (and Proud!)

What do you get excited about? Holidays? Lovely treats? Cute puppies? Cats with moustaches?

Yes, here at A Star Media we get excited about lots of things, but most of all we get excited about cool web films, making them, watching them and sharing them.

When it comes to sharing, we’re big fans (remember Napster? Those were the days…) any way, in our never ending quest for sharing film fabness we’ve invested in some brilliant high volume USB’s. Great news for customers who want web film, just plug in and play, simple!

Work Based Learning Awards 2010

Katrina after her speech

Katrina after her speech

Last night the team from A Star Media attended the 2010 Work Based Learning Awards, presented by Nottinghamshire Training Network. It was the second year that A Star Media had been invited to create films for the prestigious awards, filming all 27 nominees and then editing them into summaries for all the categories.

Despite the disruption to the filming caused by the snow last month (our car and kit were trapped at the NTN HQ for 4 days!) we managed to get all the films finished in plenty of time for the big night.

This was good news for Katrina because she had bigger fish to fry, namely being the key note speaker at the event, attended by around 420 people at the super posh East Midlands Conference Centre. It’s fair to say Katrina was pretty nervous before the night!

However, she took the bull by the horns and talked to the audience, made up of apprentices, learners and training providers, about her experiences of training and starting up her video production Nottingham business with John.

The speech went down well, and so did the films, and today the team got the following feedback from Janet Charlton, Chief Executive of the Nottinghamshire Training Network.

‘Thank you for all your hard work and support in making yesterday’s Award’s event such an enormous success. Katrina, the feedback on your presentation was excellent, you were a breath of fresh air. You truly are a rising star.’

Good news for A Star Media, we’re looking forward to the rest of 2011 and the next Work Based Learning Awards!
